Spanish Baby Clothes Sizing Explained: Your Small-Fit Guide

If you've ever ordered a gorgeous Spanish romper and found it came up smaller than expected, you're not imagining it. Traditional Spanish baby clothes are cut on the small side — beautifully made, but sized differently to the UK high street. Here's how it works, so you order the right size first time. ☽

Why Spanish Baby Clothes Run Small

Spanish and traditional European baby brands follow their own sizing tradition, which tends to run noticeably smaller than standard UK sizing. The quality and craftsmanship are wonderful — the smocking, the detailing, the soft cottons — but a “6 months” on a Spanish label is not the same as a “6 months” on a UK one.

The Simple Conversion

As a rule of thumb for our small-fit Spanish pieces:

  • 3 months ≈ UK 0–3 months
  • 6 months ≈ UK 3–6 months
  • 12 months ≈ UK 6–12 months

In other words, size up by roughly one band from the label. If your baby is on the bigger side for their age, size up again.

Which Milkmoon Pieces Are Small-Fit?

Not everything we stock is Spanish-cut. Where a piece runs small, you'll find a clear fit note right on the product page telling you exactly which UK size to order — so you never have to guess. Our Boys Blue Spanish Romper is a lovely example of the traditional style, with the small-fit note included.

How to Get the Size Right

Two quick tips: always check the individual product page first, because sizing can vary even between Spanish brands; and if you're buying ahead or as a gift, size up rather than down — a slightly roomy outfit is always better than one outgrown before it's worn.

For full measurements by age and weight, our baby size guide lays everything out clearly.
